The Archibus Facilities Management program relates AutoCAD
drawing entities in real life dimension to areas, given room identification
numbers. This provides a connection to the relational database to link personnel, equipment, and activities such as payroll and
maintenance together. As you may know, with a relational database you can
design searches that will give you reports of any information that is in the
database; the output is structured as you wish. The possibilities are enormous! Archibus is
mature software off the shelf with reports and activities most commonly needed
to manage and operate an organization. The several modules may be
installed piecemeal, to create a fully integrated business package. Security
features allow each user to see, modify or report on those areas he/she is
involved and has permissions to <without even knowing there is more>.
Management has access to all the information, in real time as it is being updated.
Other databases can be linked and indexed for automatic updating or imported.
No longer do you have to synchronize who is where, who has what etc. at the end
of the fiscal year; you're always looking at the "real time" status.
If you're trying to find an office space of a certain type or category or a
leased piece of equipment, it is there. That is the exciting thing and the real
cost savings, when something happens in the system everything is updated. Are
leases, taxes and rented equipment a problem? Do you have to know "who to
ask" to get certain information? Not any more, even a relative newcomer
can find what they need to know; whether it's locating a valve or a
