The Hendry
family first visited Sharpes, Fl in about 1850 in the person of Littleberry
Hendry who later served the Houston TX Methodist Church for many years as
Missionary to China. My father W.E. "Bill" (deceased 1979) was born
in Hinesville, GA in 1893 to G.N."Nat"(married Fannie Brewer). He
moved to Cocoa to stay in 1903 and served as Circuit Court judge (riding on
horseback) the 5th. Judicial Circuit. My father’s two sisters married men who
became prominent in the local area and their many children/grandchildren remain
here; his brother and the sisters are all gone now-none of that generation
remain. My mother (deceased 1998) Loula Powell Hendry
was born near Pearson Georgia and has two sisters remaining; Linda Powell
Taylor of Melbourne, FL and Martha Ann Powell Costa of Cocoa . The Powell
family reunion is held at Liveoak Methodist Church in rural Georgia the 3rd.
Sunday of October-you Powells just have to come! If you'd like to know more
about the Hendry and Powell family tree; we can trace them back to before the
Revolutionary war; young Robert Hendry served under Lighthorse Harry Lee in
that war an later married his sister Ann Lee; he had come here from the Isle of
Aaron in Scotland 1768. The last few years I've become interested in genealogy
and plan to attend reunions at Grandfather Mountain & Hinesville Ga. with
the Hendry Clan as well as the Powell reunion in S/E Georgia. I have family tree files for both to share
if interested. MORE
